Brief History of KOTA
The Kenya Occupational Therapists’ Association (KOTA) is the national professional association established in 1974, to represent the interests and concerns of occupational therapy practitioners and students and improve the quality of occupational therapy services. KOTA membership is approximately 900 occupational therapists (Members). KOTA is registered with Occupational therapy African regional Group (OTARG) and world Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).

  • The Kenya Occupational Therapists’ Association (K.O.T.A.) is an association of fully trained and qualified Occupational Therapists practicing both locally and internationally.
  • It’s a member of COHPEA, OTARG, and WFOT.
  • It regulates the standards and Ethics of practice
  • It promotes quality service and delivery to customers.
  • It enhances capacity building of the Occupational Therapists
  • It licenses Occupational Therapists to practice

Areas covered by Occupational Therapy

  • Pediatrics e.g. Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Club Foot, Delayed Developmental Milestones, pervasive learning developmental disorders.etc
  • Physical dysfunction e.g. Hand injury, Stroke, burns, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Spinal Cord
    injuries. etc
  • Psychosocial disorders e.g. Schizophrenia, Drug rehabilitation, Dementia, Mental Illnesses. Etc
  • Ergonomics


Education

Currently in Kenya, Occupational Therapists train in Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) at a Diploma level and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) at a Bachelors degree level.
