The Association shall consist of the following Category of Members

  • Honorary Members
  • Student Members
  • Ordinary Members


(a) Ordinary Members


Persons eligible for admission in this category shall include:-
(i) Any person educated in schools, colleges and Institutions recognized by the Government of
Kenya and the Association, or any person educated outside Kenya in schools, colleges and
institutions recognized by the Association;
(ii) Any person qualified to hold an appointment as an occupational therapist and who in
addition holds such appointment with the National government, a County Government, a
town or urban authority or who holds some other appointment in the public health services
approved by the National Executive Committee as qualifying for membership; and
(iii) Any person qualified to hold an appointment as an occupational therapist and who as
the proprietor, partner or employee carries on the private practice of occupational therapy
(iv) Nothing contained in this Article shall prohibit any qualified occupational therapist
from becoming a full member and to participate in the activities of the Association
even though he be not employed.
(v) Any eligible person shall become a Member upon payment of the annual subscription as
stipulated by the Association.


(b) Honorary Members
Honorary members shall not be under any liability or debts of the Association, shall pay no membership
subscription and shall not have the right to vote. They shall remain Honorary Members at the pleasure of
the Association. Persons eligible for admission into this category shall include:-
(i) persons of outstanding qualities who have attained eminence in the administration of the laws
relating to occupational therapy; or
(ii) persons of distinguished attainments associated with or interested in the work of occupational
therapy, provided that such person shall be nominated by the National Executive Committee from
a list of persons proposed by members of the Association and confirmed at the Annual General
Meeting.


(c) Student Members
Student Members shall be persons who have been approved by the Executive Committee and
who are attending an approved course of study or are engaged in work connected with occupational
therapy with a view to their ultimate qualification as the occupational therapists.
They shall have no liability of the Association and shall have no right to vote. Student members may, upon
payment of the prescribed fees, join the Association in their individual capacity or through Block
membership while in training at a school, college or institution recognized by the Government of Kenya.
Student members who join the Association as a block shall be represented by one representative who
shall attend the Annual General Meeting and any other meeting where an important item
concerning them is discussed. Such representative shall not have the right to vote.
Students members with individual membership shall attend the Annual General Meeting and any other
meeting where an important item concerning students is discussed. Such student members shall not
have the right to vote.
